Legal String

These small spools of cotton string are used in Germany to tie up legal documents and contracts, usually drawn up by a notary. Each different colour combination represents a different administrative area of Germany:
Blue / White - Bavaria
Black / Gold - Saxony-Anhalt
Black / Red / Gold - Lower Saxony
Green / White - Saxony
Red / White - Hamburg
